Israel Can't Imprison Two Million Gazans Without Paying a Cruel Price

The human cost of Israel's blockade

On October 25, 2007, the Gaza Strip officially became a giant prison, as Israel sealed off all of the crossings between Gaza and Israel, as well as between Gaza and Egypt. The closure has had a devastating impact on the lives of the 1.8 million Palestinians who live in Gaza. They can no longer move freely in or out of their own country, and the import of goods into Gaza has been severely restricted. This has led to shortages of food, medicine, and other essential supplies.

The blockade has also had a devastating impact on Gaza's economy. The vast majority of Gaza's workforce is now unemployed, and the poverty rate has soared. The blockade has also crippled the health care system, and the infant mortality rate is now the highest in the Middle East. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is a direct result of the Israeli blockade, and it is only getting worse.

The human face of the blockade

The human cost of the blockade is staggering. In 2012, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that more than 800,000 Gazans were food insecure. This means that they do not have access to enough food to meet their basic needs.

The blockade has also had a severe impact on Gazan children. In 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that more than 100,000 children in Gaza were suffering from malnutrition. The WHO also reported that more than 25,000 children in Gaza were suffering from mental disorders.

The Israeli blockade of Gaza is a violation of international law, and it is causing immense suffering for the Palestinian people. The blockade must be lifted immediately, and the Israeli government must be held accountable for its actions.
