Alaska Airlines Succeeds In Having Consumer Lawsuit Aimed At Blocking Takeover Of Hawaiian Airlines Thrown Out Of Court

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Blocking Alaska Airlines' Acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines

High-Stakes Deal Approved Despite Legal Resistance

Dismissal Deems Acquisition Legitimate, Clears Path for Merger

A lawsuit seeking to prevent Alaska Airlines' proposed $2.6 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines has been dismissed by a judge. The lawsuit, filed by a group of consumer advocates, alleged that the merger would lead to higher fares, reduced competition, and diminished consumer choice. However, the judge ruled that the plaintiffs had failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are both major carriers in the Pacific Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands, respectively. The merger would create the fifth-largest airline in the United States with a combined fleet of more than 600 aircraft and a presence in over 100 destinations worldwide.

The dismissal of the lawsuit clears the way for Alaska Airlines to complete its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year pending regulatory approval. Once completed, the merger will create a major new competitor in the airline industry and could have a significant impact on the travel landscape in the United States.
