Roma Sack Manager De Rossi After Winless Run

Roma sack manager De Rossi after winless run

De Rossi departs after 11 games without a win

Ranieri appointed as new manager

Roma have sacked manager Daniele De Rossi after a dismal run of form that has seen the club extend their winless streak to 11 games. Former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as his replacement.

De Rossi, a club legend who made over 600 appearances for Roma as a player, took over as manager in October 2021. However, he has struggled to turn things around at the Stadio Olimpico, with Roma winning just four of their 20 matches under his leadership.

The club's poor form has seen them drop to eighth in Serie A, 16 points behind leaders Napoli. They have also been knocked out of the Europa League and Coppa Italia, leaving them with nothing to play for but a top-four finish.

De Rossi's sacking comes as no surprise, as the pressure had been mounting on him in recent weeks. The club's hierarchy had been growing increasingly frustrated with the team's performances, and a 3-0 defeat to Inter Milan on Sunday proved to be the final straw.

Ranieri, 70, is a experienced manager who has won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016. He also has experience of managing in Italy, having previously coached Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan.

Ranieri's appointment is likely to be a popular one with Roma fans, who will be hoping that he can help to turn things around at the club. The Italian will be tasked with getting Roma back into the top four and challenging for trophies.
