San Siro Stadium: A Shared Home for Milan and Inter

Etymology and History

Milan's iconic football stadium, located in the San Siro district, is officially known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The stadium has been the shared home of two of Italy's most famous football clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan, for over 75 years. Despite the official name, Internazionale fans commonly refer to it as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, while AC Milan fans affectionately call it San Siro, after the surrounding neighborhood.

In 1980, the stadium was renamed in honor of Giuseppe Meazza, a legendary Italian footballer who played for both Milan and Inter and won two World Cups with the national team. Meazza's exceptional skills and achievements earned him the nickname "Il Balilla," and he remains one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Current Use and Upcoming Events

Today, San Siro stadium continues to host major sporting events, including Serie A matches and the occasional international fixture. It has also played host to iconic rock concerts, including performances by Bruce Springsteen and Vasco Rossi.

Upcoming events at San Siro include the Serie A match between Milan and Inter on April 22, 2024, and a Bruce Springsteen concert on June 1, 2024. Guided tours of the stadium are also available for those wishing to explore the iconic venue.
